Choosing A Global Politics Extended Essay Research Question

It can be difficult to choose your EE Research question in Global Politics. This article will explain how.

According to the GP guide, you must “deeply analyze a current, important global political issue.” This page will help you understand what is and isn’t a political topic in Global Politics.

The 3 Tests for a Good Global Politics EE Question

Test 1: Does it look contemporary?
Global Politics requires that you keep in mind one rule. It must be current. This means that it has occurred within the last 18 years. It can’t be the same issue you used to assess another component (i.e. The EA or extension presentation. .

Test 2: Are you more specific?
Concentrate on a specific question. Don’t be too broad. My students and those who I help online are most likely to hear that you need to narrow down your question. Make it more specific or about a certain time period. You don’t have to be specific. You may not have enough data. We’ll discuss this issue in greater detail online.

Test 3: This is how you can explore it.
As we’ve already seen (i.e. We’ve already seen (i.e. There is a significant difference. Certain topics are just not appropriate for Economics or Business. My students can be assured that their topics will work as an Econ or Business teacher. Many topics are possible for GP. It’s what you do with it that matters. You’re most likely to be able explore it using 7 Areas for Global Politics.

Some RQ examples are provided below

Global Politics students have many options for questions to choose from. These are examples of questions you might ask about the topics you are interested in.

What media portrayals may differ from government information
– An example is: “A comparison on how the Hong Kong demonstrations of late 2014 were portrayed by Singaporean media versus reporting done in Singapore by NGOs XYZ” (Example from GP Guide).

The influence of one political party’s success on outcomes in another country is evident.
– Exemple: “The impact of Syriza’s election success in Greece on campaign and outcomes for the 2015 parliamentary elections in Spain” (Example taken from the GP Guide).

The struggles of certain groups and individuals to attain political power.
– “An Evaluation of the Ability of Mexican Migrants to Gain a Political Voice in County X in Arizona” (Example courtesy of the GP Guide).

Trends in political behavior in a country.
“Big data” and election campaigns: Should we be concerned? The Obama 2012 Campaign. (Example from GP Guide)

Two countries have seen different results from global trends in politics.
“To what extent is urbanization driven by ideological and practical forces global rather than nation-specific factors?” Comparative analysis of the political rhetoric, policies of governments and effects of global forces that drive migration from rural areas to urban centres in Australia and Indonesia. (Example from GP Guide).

How one crisis can affect political relations between countries.
What evidence does the Russia-China relationship show that a realistic view of international politics is still valid? (Example from GP Guide).

All of the above questions would be potentially-acceptable EE research questions.
