Multiple Parallels In The Swimmer By John Cheever

The hypocrisy displayed by Tartuffe in Tartuffe Moliere has confused Orgon. Orgon’s parents have seen Tartuffe in his true form and are trying to stop him. Orgon nearly ruined his family because he was so obsessed and devout. Tartuffe has a lot of power over Orgon due to his obsession. He was fooled by Tartuffe’s hypocrisy, who claimed to be religious and then always showed himself to be pious. Orgon represents a powerful, wealthy man who is always haunted by the fear of hell. Tartuffe is the living saint in Orgon’s eyes, as she represents paradise. Orgon’s happy family life has been ruined by this obsession. Orgon didn’t care about Tartuffe, as Dorine explained to him. Orgon never cared about his wife’s health, but was always concerned with Tartuffe. Orgon decided to allow Mariane to marry Tartuffe. He also gave Tartuffe her land and property, and allowed him to live next to Elmire. Cleante, a wise and knowledgeable man about Christian, told Orgon that the hypocrites are those who do not show their devotion, but rather, they act with moderation. They also never criticize our actions because they know the pride we take in them. Orgon’s fanaticism masked the truth.

Tartuffe is also a hypocrite who understands human psychology and can manipulate Orgon easily. Tartuffe got all his sins for accusing Damis of flirting Elmire with Tartuffe. Damis did not say anything more after Orgon became convinced that Damis was a man of morals and noblesse. Tartuffe was also a loverbird when he demanded Elmire’s love. He used religious words to flirt Elmire. God’s perfect Earthly creations are reflected in those such as you. Clearly, this isn’t the speech of a priest. Tartuffe cleverly masked his guilt by using a moral tone. Orgon is cursing Tartuffe now until he realizes his mistake. Tartuffe insisted that he had to take God out of his argument.

Orgon, in conclusion, is so religiously obsessed that he lacks the understanding to see Tartuffe’s true face. Tartuffe is able to manipulate Orgon’s entire family. Tartuffe was insidious and showed subtlety as he manipulated Orgon for Orgon’s land.
